On Prime: Rose

Episode 1: Rose - screens Thursday July 7 at 7.30pm

Young Rose Tyler lives a mundane life working as a shop assistant, living with her mother Jackie and spending her spare time with her callow boyfriend Mickey.

One night as she is preparing to leave the department store for home, she is asked to take a parcel down to the electrician in the store's basement.

The electrician is nowhere to be found and Rose finds herself locked in one of the rooms with a lot of store dummies. Slowly one of the dummies begins to move towards Rose. At first she believes it to be some sort of prank but as more of the dummies begin to move menacingly towards her she realises she is in big trouble.

It is then that Rose is rescued by a mysterious man who tells Rose that the dummies are Autons- living plastic operated by a relay device in the roof of the store. The stranger says that he is "The Doctor". "Nice to meet you Rose. Run for your life," he tells her as he battles one of the Living Plastic.

Rose flees the building just before it erupts in a terrible explosion.

At home Rose is urged by her mother to seek compensation for her trauma.

Soon, after another encounter with the Doctor she meets Clive, a strange computer geek who tells her, "If the Doctor's making house-calls, then God help you."

Rose thinks Clive is a weirdo but soon, when drawn to the lair of the Nestene Consciousness with the Doctor, she realises that her mum, her boyfriend and the whole of Planet Earth are in danger. The only hope for salvation lies inside a strange blue police box and Rose's life is never the same again.
