Doctor's Dilemma

By Jon Preddle

Firstly, Sonya Cameron's memory from TSV 12. I would say, going by your age that you were born in 1969. You would be at a TV watching age at about five. So the only Dalek stories on TV at this time were Day of the Daleks (1975) and Death to the Daleks (1977). It was most likely the latter that you saw. Although neither story features Thals, Death to the Daleks did have caves.

Our other question this month is from Jessica Ihimaera-Smiler, who asks "In TSV 12's biography of Colin Baker I noticed that he had married (and divorced) a certain Liza Goddard. Is this the same Liza Goddard who played Kari in Terminus which has just finished on NZ TV?"

Andrew Poulsen answers: Well, the simple answer to this question is Yes. As stated in TSV 8's Trivia column, Colin's ex-wife, Liza appeared in Terminus. Other wives to appear in Doctor Who include Jon Pertwee's ex-wife, Jean Marsh, who played Joanna in The Crusade and Sara Kingdom in The Daleks' Master Plan, and, of course, Tom Baker met his wife (now ex) through Doctor Who, namely Lalla Ward, who played Romana 2.

TRIVIA (from p23)

When a director was impressed by the performance of an actor he usually hires him again. Such is the case with Douglas Camfield. He has used Nick Courtney in three stories, Sheila Dunn (his wife) in three, and Walter Randall in four. David Maloney has used Bernard Horsfall in four stories.

This item appeared in TSV 13 (May 1989).
