The Terrestrial Index

by Jean-Marc Lofficier

Book review by Paul Scoones

This is the sequel to Jean-Marc Lofficier's Programme Guide, and basically consists of a book of lists. There is a table of stories; an Earth history according to Doctor Who; alphabetical listings of actors, creators and key technical personnel; the missing Season 23 (nothing new here); the films, stage and radio plays, records and tapes; video, games, novels, short stories, miscellaneous fiction, comic stories, a fiction index, and a welcome addendum and errata for the Programme Guide - all within a bulky 256 pages. I haven't had a chance to look too closely at it yet, but I have noticed that some fairly obvious errors from the Programme Guide have not been covered in the erratum, and clearly the created history of Earth was not constructed as carefully as the author likes to think. In such a data-intensive work as this book, there is much capacity for error, and the history section alone disappointingly has numerous goofs. Perhaps the rest of the book is more accurate...?
